The Elements of Style
William Jr Strunk

In 1918, Strunk privately published The Elements of Style for the use of his students at Cornell University, where he taught English. Strunk’s students gave this book its nickname, ‘the little book’. Strunk intended the guide “to lighten the task of instructor and student by concentrating attention …on a few essentials, the rules of usage and principles of composition most commonly violated.” [The book was revised in 1935 with Edward A Tenney, and retitled The Elements and Practice of Composition. E B White substantially revised and expanded the book, reverting to its original title; this edition sold many millions of couples and became the grammatical vade mecum.]

This book is a reprint of the original, first edition of 1918.
